8/30/11 - 1:30 PM - Town of Southern Shores beaches are now guarded with roving lifeguards. All beach rules and etiquette standards apply. The following accesses are reported to be closed to pedestrians: (1) 132A Ocean Blvd. (2) Dolphin Run and (3) Pompano Court.

8/29/11 - 5:00 PM  - We thank you for your cooperation during what is a very hectic time for SSR. With all 640 properties checking in, our cleaning crews are overloaded. If you checked in on Monday and your house was not clean, please call our office in the morning so that we can schedule a crew.

If you will be checking in on Tuesday, your house may or may not be clean when you arrive, but you will be able to proceed to the house unless there have been other damages due to the hurricane. There are sporadic power outages throughout Duck & Corolla, as well as cable and internet outages. All homes in Carolina Dunes in Duck are without power - the power company has been called.

We are doing our best to get all homes cleaned as soon as possible, but with the weekday check-in the number of crews available is very small.

Thanks again for your patience and we hope that you are able to enjoy the rest of your vacation.

Be sure to read all of the Dare County and Currituck County Bulletins via the links below. They have important information about drinking water, swimming advisories, and trash pickup.

8/29/11 - 3:00 PM  - Currituck County will open up to visitors on Tuesday morning at 10:00 AM. Check http://co.currituck.nc.us/pdf/index/Irene-Advisory-19.pdf

8/29/11 - 9:00 AM - Southern Shores Realty is OPEN. We will be working hard to get all of our homes ready for guests arriving this afternoon.

Guests staying in Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head are welcome to head on down for their vacation and will be able to check in today after noon. Because we have so many homes to clean and inspect for damage, properties will be available at different times during the day. We ask that you be patient with us. We will get you checked in to begin your vacation as soon as we can.

Guests checking in to Keyless Entry Homes: The code that you received will work. You may proceed directly to the property, but please contact our office immediately if the home does not appear to be clean.

Although the home you have rented may be deemed habitable, it is likely to have some minor exterior damage. Amenities such as pools, hot tubs and beach walkways may require service and/or repair that we cannot guarantee will occur during your stay. Severe beach erosion mayhave occurred, creating drop-offs from the top of the dune to the beach. These drop-offs are unstable and extremely dangerous. Advisories against swimming in the ocean may be in place due to the possibility of debris, bacteria, gasoline, oil runoff and other contaminants. No refunds will be issued for such inconveniences occurring as a result of a hurricane.

The town of Duck is expected to open up to visitors  Tuesday August 30th at 10:00 AM

Currituck Outer Banks (Corolla) will remained closed to vacationers and guests until further notice.
