Kill Devil Hills, NC

Centrally located, Kill Devil Hills is the Outer Banks’ oldest township. It is bordered by Kitty Hawk to the north and Nags Head to the south. Kill Devil Hills is the site of the Wright Brothers National Memorial, commemorating the Wright brothers' four powered airplane flights of Thursday, December 17, 1903.

 

 

 

 

 

Today in Kill Devil Hills you will find the largest strip of fast food chains, called "French Fry Alley" by the locals. There are also many locally owned restaurants, strip shopping centers, department stores, surf shops, and souvenir stores galore. Wright Brothers National Memorial

The Wright Brothers National Memorial honors the first powered controlled flight of the Wright Brothers in 1903. The Visitor Center features full-scale reproductions of the Wright 1903 Powered Flyer and interpretive presentations. A pavilion boasts an exhibit hall with special exhibits, including a replica of the 1902 Wright Glider and a multipurpose auditorium. The grounds include historical markers of each attempted powered flight, replica camp buildings and a 60-foot granite monument on top of Big Kill Devil Hill (a 90-foot dune) honoring the Wright brothers.

 

Avalon Fishing Pier

The Avalon Fishing Pier was built in 1958 and is open from 5:00 am - 2:00 am during the summer months. The pier offers fishing in waters 12 to 15 ft off the end of the pier.

 

Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball

The Outer Banks Daredevils Baseball Club plays at the First Flight Baseball Complex, located near the Wright Brothers Memorial. The Daredevils Baseball Club offers group outings for birthday parties and organizational events.

 

Public Beach Access

Kill Devil Hills offers public beach access with parking, showers and are patrolled by the Town of Kill Devil Hills Ocean Rescue Division.
