The homes in this category are located one lot back from the ocean. The lot in front may or may not have a house built on it. Some of these homes front Ocean Blvd. in Southern Shores and Virginia Dare Trail (Rt. 12) from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head.
The homes in this category are on the oceanside of Rt 12. There may be one or more streets between them and the ocean. Walking distance could be as much as 500 yards.
From Kitty Hawk to Nags Head, these homes are between Route 12 (Virginia Dare Highway) and Route 158 (The Bypass).
These homes are west of Rt. 12 in Southern Shores, including those that front Duck Road.
These homes have access to the many canals the run through Southern Shores and out to the Currituck Sound.
These homes are within walking distance to the sound, or are one lot back from the sound. This includes home west of Rout 12 in Corolla and Duck, and from Kitty Hawk to Nags Head, those homes west of Highway 158.
Soundfront homes are the closest homes to the Sound. Many are on bulkheaded lots with steps down to the water. The sound water is shallow and usually calmer than the ocean.
