Holiday Happenings

Holiday season is upon us! Who wouldn't love to get into the jolly spirit on the OBX? We're happy to share some great ways to enjoy the season!

Novemeber 28 - Jockey's Ridge - Nags Head

Come spread the holiday cheer with Kitty Hawk Kites and a kites light show on Jockeys Ridge!

Be sure to make it out on Saturday, November 28th from 4pm - 7pm for a light display like no other. Kites with Lights, at Jockeys Ridge State Park, features large 19-to-30 foot kites decked out in the spirit of the holiday season! At 5pm, enjoy the lighting of the Jockeys Ridge State Park Solar Christmas tree out on the dunes directly across from Jockeys Ridge Crossing.  Warm beverages and baked goods are available across the street at Jockeys Ridge Crossing. All donations benefit the Friends of Jockeys Ridge.

November 27-28 - Kitty Hawk Kites - Nags Head

Share all your Christmas wishes and have your picture taken with Santa at Kitty Hawk Kites at Jockeys Ridge Crossing in Nags Head on Friday, November 27 and Saturday, November 28. Have some fun with Santas elves and try out classic toys straight from the workshop on the second floor of Kitty Hawk Kites!

December 5 - Virtual

Celebrate the holiday season virtually! As crowd gathering restrictions remain in place and in the interest of public health and safety the Town of Duck has made the decision to go virtual with the Annual Yuletide Celebration. But dont you worry! We have already spoken to Santa and he will be there to help us ring in the holiday season.

Join us as we premiere on Facebook and YouTube on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 5:00 p.m. with the 10th Annual Yuletide Celebration. Grab a warm beverage and some snacks and tune in with the family for the lighting of the crabpot tree.

Santa has some fun of his own planned. To keep both Santa and the children safe this year he will be reading fun books to the children from his workshop. We know that they still need to get their lists to him, so be sure to fill out a Letter to Santa and email it to events@townofduck.com or drop it off in the Town Hall lobby North Pole Mailbox by Tuesday, December 1 and yours may even be one that he reads live! We promise to get any letters to him that come in after that date as well.

We invite everyone to come enjoy the holiday season in the Town of Duck. Be sure to Keep the Cheer Here. Our shops and restaurants are open and ready to get everything checked off your list. Learn more at doducknc.com. The Town Hall will be decorated with a special photo area under the gazebo stage to get that special holiday picture.

December 17 - Virtual, Wright Brothers Memorial, and at the Avalon Pier

117 years ago the Wright Brothers made leaps and bounds in modern aviation on our very own dunes. Due to the pandemic, events will be altered. All are encouraged to visit the Wright Brothers Memorial that day, where entrance fees will be waived. That evening, there will be a fireworks display at the Avalon Pier, this will be live-streamed for all who wish to participate virtually.

November 30 - January 18 (Tues - Sun in December, Fri - Sat in January) - Manteo

Stroll along enchanted garden paths and discover the joy of the season with holiday lights, sights and sounds transforming The Elizabethan Gardens into an illuminated winter wonderland. The radiant glow of the gardens, traditional holiday décor and fantastical displays are a true spectacle to behold. Festive trees grace the Gatehouse and Reception Hall and a crackling open-air fire warms the Great Lawn. Seasonal gift shop and plant sales coincide.
