Outer Banks Marathon 2017

November 13, 2017

This past weekend, we cheered on nearly 800 runners as they raced to the finish line in the annual Outer Banks Marathon. The marathon is one of the Outer Banks’ largest annual events and draws thousands of visitors to the area for the weekend. This was the 12th year for the marathon and we were so excited to continue participating as we have since its beginning.

The weekend’s events began on Friday at the marathon expo, where we had a blast meeting the runners and their cheering squads. We loved hearing how some runners have turned our cowbells into collections—they’ve gotten one for each year since we started!

With several smaller races on Saturday, the main event took place Sunday morning. After a week of gray skies and rain, we were thankful the sun finally came out for race day. The runners began their 26.2-mile trek at the entrance to The Woods Road in Kitty Hawk. As they breezed through mile one, we cheered them on from the sidelines.

Our mile marker theme this year was the CSI show and we had so much fun with it. Our killer clown, Charlotte, did an awesome job of being menacing while giving out high-fives.

Congratulations to Blair Teal of Charlotte, NC for his overall winning time of 2:22:30 and Katherine Price of Beaufort, NC for her time of 3:02:32! See more shots of our marathon weekend below.

Thinking about running in the marathon next year? We have lots of homes that offer mini-vacations perfect for a marathon weekend because carb-loading is more fun in the comfort of an Outer Banks vacation home.
