Sending Hope with the Little Red Mailbox

June 26, 2017

There’s a little magic happening at the Glenmere Beach Access in Kill Devil Hills. Hope.

The Little Red Mailbox, perched at the beach access to the left of the gazebo, is a place to make a wish, send a prayer, write a love note, share a secret or make your dreams come true. The unmistakable mailbox, has a sign posted to “Leave a note of hope.”

There’s no better place to contemplate your wishes then on the beautiful, peaceful beaches of the Outer Banks. Take in a breath of fresh air, clear your mind and then let your deepest wishes and desires come to you. Write it down and send your wishes in Little Red Mailbox, a tradition that locals and visitors from all over the world have come to know and love. This Little Red Mailbox shines a ray of hope to everyone who visits.

The Little Red Mailbox was founded by Eddie & Sue Goodrich, locals of the Outer Banks, who maintain a journal of entries for the mailbox.  Sue came up with the concept after losing her mother. Sue remembered her mother’s advice, “If you ever feel sad, help someone else out.”  With permission and support from the Town of Kill Devil Hills and residents, she’s converted the Glenmere Street Beach Access to one of hope.

Keep sharing the hope by following the Little Red Mailbox on Facebook and Instagram (@littleredmailbox).  Use the hashtag #littleredmailbox if you take a photo to share the hope from the Little Red Mailbox and our small OBX town with the world.
