This Month on the Outer Banks: November

Contemporary Christian band, We Are Messengers will be stopping in Kill Devil Hills this month as part of their Power Tour. Currituck Heritage Festival

On November 2nd, join the Currituck County NC Cooperative Extension Center and the Kansas City Barbecue Society for a great day filled with family fun. From 2PM-3PM enjoy barbecue from various vendors participating in the barbecue contest. Get your fun on in the fun zone filled with activities for individuals of all ages and of course, don't forget about the cornhole tournament! Flying Falcon Road Race

Support the Kitty Hawk Elementary School PTA this month by participating in the Flying Falcon Road Race. The event includes a quarter mile, one mile, and two mile race, as well as a fall carnival following the race. Click here for registration information.

Annual OBX Shrimp Cook-Off

Benefit the Outer Banks Center for Dolphin Research by supporting the 10th annual OBX Shrimp Cook-Off! The event includes many local restaurants competing to create the best shrimp dish, a live MC, drink specials, 50/50 raffles, door prizes, and a silent auction with donations from local vendors. An educational booth devoted to learning more about dolphins will be open throughout the event. Tickets are $25 per person. They can be preordered here or purchased at the door. Fall at the Outer Banks

Photographers of all experience levels are invited to spend Fall at the OBX for the weekend. Travel around the Outer Banks finding the most picturesque locations by day and stay in an ocean front hotel by night. Not only will you get the chance to visit scenic spots across the Outer Banks, but the workshop will cover various topics such as exposure, "seeing" in black and white, and filter use. Outer Banks Marathon and Southern Fried Half Marathon

Come out for the race that has gained popularity in the Outer Banks over the past few years. This race includes the natural terrain of the Outer Banks as well as a challenging uphill stretch on the Washington-Baum Bridge. The marathon and half marathon will both take place on a stretch of the Atlantic Coast from Kitty Hawk to Manteo. Click here for registration information.

Branson Country Christmas and Veteran's Show

This year's Ozark Jubilee entitled "An All New Christmas Show" will be a great event for the whole family! Not only will this year's show be great for Christmas, but it will also recognize the service and sacrifices made by past and current soldiers. Beach Food Pantry Holiday Chef's Challenge

On November 15th, chefs across the Outer Banks will compete to see who can create the most delicious dish using ingredients that are typically in stock at the Beach Food Pantry. The chefs will each be competing to earn the title of "Prince or Princess of Canned Goods". The participants will only have 60 minutes to create their masterpieces, after which a panel of three judges as well as guests in attendance will vote for their favorite dish.

Food Truck Showdown

At the Outer Banks Food Truck Showdown, a collection of the region's best food trucks will be competing for the Showdown Championship Belt. There will be over 10 food trucks at the event including favorites such as Sooey's BBQ and OBX Frozen Yogurt. There will be a variety of trucks including food trucks, brewery trucks, and dessert trucks. Not only will there be great food, but also great music. Tipsy Turkey Beer Mile

This Thanksgiving, earn those extra helpings of pumpkin pie with the Tipsy Turkey Beer Mile hosted by the Outer Banks Brewing Station. In addition the the one mile race, there will also be a backyard party hosted at the Brewing Station and a costume contest for the most creative holiday gear. Enjoy a morning of drinking and running to start your Thanksgiving off right. Because of the nature of this event, registrants must be 21 of age or older. Click here to register.

24th Annual ADVICE 5k Turkey Trot

Whether you are a runner or a walker, come out and participate in the 24th Annual ADCIVE 5k Turkey Trot! This event has become a staple of Thanksgiving on the Outer Banks and is great fun for the whole family. The proceeds from this event fund grants for organizations that improve or support the wealth of those living on the OBX. 8th Annual Surfin' Turkey 5k and Puppy Drum Fun Run

Support the children of Cape Hatteras this Thanksgiving by taking part in the 8th Annual Surfin' Turkey 5k and Puppy Drum Fun Run! This event is for runners of all ages and abilities (including puppers!) This race will not be timed, but it is a great way to exercise before you get pulled into that food coma after lunch. Turkey gear is encouraged, be sure to have fun with it!

Hangin' With Santa and Kites with Lights

Ring in the beginning of December and the ending of November with this holiday fun for the family. On Friday, come out for pictures with Santa, cookies, and hot cocoa. Not to mention, get the chance to try out some of Santa's new toys straight from his workshop. Get ready for the spectacular light show with kites on Saturday! A perfect way to get a head start on the 25 days of Christmas.

Poulos Family Christmas

I can assure you that the Poulos Family Christmas Lights are something you won't want to miss. The Poulos Family puts up an intricate display of Christmas lights and decorations every year. Over the years, they have gained notoriety as one of the Outer Banks greatest Christmas traditions. The display takes over 12 years to put up every year. The Poulos Family Christmas display has even won awards including The Today Show's annual Christmas Lights competition. The display will be up from November 28th until December 31st. Don't miss your chance to witness a masterpiece!

Winter Lights at Elizabethan Gardens

Experience the joy of the holiday season up close and personal with a stroll through the historic Elizabethan Gardens. This year the winter lights at the garden will open on November 30th and run through January 19th. Take the family on a walk through the illuminated beauty of the gardens.
