Is it even October without a visit to a pumpkin patch?

Debatable? Well, we think October calls for a visit to the pumpkin patch to find that perfect treasure and embrace all things Fall! When you are on the Outer Banks - we have got you covered! Apple cider, hay rides and, of course, pumpkins can be found at these fun and festive Outer Banks traditions. These options are sure to please and entertain the whole family!

Island Farm

Island Farm is a living history site that tells the story of everyday life on Roanoke Island in the 1850s. Located at 1140 N. US HWY 64 in Manteo, Island Farm is regularly open Tuesday-Friday from 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. On Select Saturdays in October, Island Farm is hosting its 12th annual Pumpkin Patch event. From 9:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. on October 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th  there will be wagon rides, fall activities and games, historic demonstrations including a blacksmith and candle making, and of course, pumpkins! Tasty fall treats will also be worthy fare including apple cider, hearth-cooked corn cakes and open-fire cooked popcorn. Local art and produce vendors are  scheduled to be on site - truly something for everyone!. Admission for visitors aged four and older is $10. Children 0-3 years old are admitted for free.

Grandy Greenhouse & Farm Market

A visit to the Grandy Greenhouse and Farm Market will quickly become a highlight of your Fall visit to the Outer Banks! Grandy Greenhouse & Farm Market is located at 6264 Caratoke Highway in Grandy, NC and hosts an annual pumpkin patch including a hayride, apple cider, frozen yogurt and even a chance to make a scarecrow! Reservations are needed for hayrides Monday through Friday. Visits on Saturday and Sunday do not require reservations unless you have a large group. All ticket prices are $10.00 per person. Guests will also find a variety of seasonal fruit, vegetables, jams and local baked goods at the market.

Duck Jazz Festival

This event takes place annually in early October. The Town of Duck showcases national, regional and local jazz musicians live at the Duck Town Park with jazz-themed events and celebrations throughout the town at local businesses. This event is free to the public so pack your picnic basket, grab your chairs and blankets and enjoy this weekend of family-friendly fun.

Bluegrass Island Music Festival

Held at Roanoke Island Festival Park this annual event turns Roanoke Island into “Bluegrass Island”. The Bluegrass Island Music Festival boasts an impressive lineup of regionally and internationally famous bands promising great music and fun for all. Purchase tickets early as the event tends to fill up quickly.

The Outer Banks Seafood Festival

Working to provide a fun and educational experience that promotes, honors and celebrates the heritage and community of the fishing industry of the Outer Banks, the Outer Banks Seafood Festival is an annual favorite. Tasty, fresh seafood, great music, and live demonstrations this event is held rain or shine with proceeds benefiting the local fishing community. Since 2012, the Seafood Festival has generated nearly $80,000 in grants and financial support for local maritime industry members in need!

OBX Brewtag

“A celebration of flight and beer” OBX Brewtag showcases local beer, live music and the engineering prowess of teams competing to see whose design can fly their keg the farthest. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival

The 25th Anniversary Wings Over Water Festival is an annual refuge fundraising event sponsored by Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society (CWRS). CWRS is a non-profit group which exists to support regional national wildlife refuges.
