Tasting new foods and dining at new restaurants is one of the most thrilling parts of vacation. When you have specific dietary needs, however, trying to find a place that accommodates you can seem like a daunting task. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of the top five Outer Banks restaurants with vegetarian options while you stay in one of our Outer Banks vacation homes. We chose these OBX restaurants because each has a variety of vegetarian dishes so you’re sure to find one you’ll love! Read our top five picks below:
A local favorite and Beach Road fixture, Rundown Cafe is a prime option for vegetarians to enjoy taste-filled meals. Rundown Cafe’s Jamaican-inspired menu is filled with a variety of mouth-watering dishes. Their vegetarian options are not lacking in flavor, as often is the case at non-vegetarian restaurants. They have obviously taken great care to include interesting options for different diets, including gluten-free options. Try their vegetarian Aloha Veggie Burger, a grilled garden burger with Swiss cheese melted enticingly and topped with grilled pineapple or their Sicilian Trifecta Sandwich with grilled Portobello mushroom and fried eggplant with mozzarella. Be sure to add Rundown Cafe to your Outer Banks vacation to-do list!
Bad Bean Baja Grill has accomplished what few restaurants are capable of: creating vegetarian dishes that even non-vegetarians love. We’re partial to their tofu tacos (their marinated grilled tofu is to die for) but they offer vegetarian versions of all types of dishes. And the great thing about Bad Bean Baja Grill, is that whatever you order, you won’t be disappointed. Their other vegetarian options include a delicious black bean quinoa burger served in a toasted flour tortilla and topped with two types of cheese and a roasted mushroom and goat cheese quesadilla. We don’t know about you but our mouths are watering from just reading that.
The classic Outer Banks destination for local brews and an impressive menu, Outer Banks Brewing Station also offers several vegetarian options. Conveniently organized into their own “meaternatives” section on the menu, finding a filling vegetarian meal is simple. Their Station Coconut Tofu is a great option if you want to try a Guatemalan-inspired dish. Outer Banks Brewing Station has not limited their offerings to the vegetarian staple of tofu, however, with other plates featuring items such as a veggie chipotle burger with avocado aioli. They have definitely crafted a vegetarian menu with a range of options.
One of our favorite spots for flavorful vegetarian AND vegan food is Outer Bean Cafe. This adorable little cafe is home to some of the freshest and most wholesome options on the Outer Banks. Their extensive menu includes sandwiches and paninis like the vegan pesto which features marinated tofu, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, caramelized onion, hummus, and basil pesto on wheat bread. Not only has Outer Bean Cafe created an enticing array of offerings but they also do an impressive job when it comes to concocting juices. These nutrient-rich mixtures of fresh fruits and vegetables make the perfect pairing with one of their vegetarian or vegan sandwiches.
